A Shower of Prizes for SURTECO

Outstanding design

At this year’s “German Design Award” competition, SURTECO cele-brated success with two prizes: The award in the “Winner” catego-ry was earned for the new exhibition concept while the “Edition Co-Equal” received a “Special Mention”. This had already been award-ed the “Red Dot” accolade in the summer.

The exhibition stand covering an area of 550 sqm at Interzum 2017 convinced the Jury with its expansive, imposing profile. It presented the complexity of the products as a holistic service concept. The unusual design approach attracted attention with abstract images rather than concrete application scenarios, having been developed in conjunction with design studio Ippolito Fleitz Group. A group of tree sculptures more than five metres in height with generous crowns up to nine metres in diameter towered over the exhibition stand. An open communication suite occupied the centre of the stand and invited all the visitors to engage in conversation. The edgebanding presentation proved to be a particular eye-catcher with its staging of paper and plastic-based edgings as a wavy relief in a three-dimensional look.

Edition Co-Equal – playing with impressions
The “Edition Co-Equal” from Surteco created an impact for the second time. It had already been awarded the “Red Dot” in the summer and now earned the additional accolade of the “German Design Award – Special Mention”. The edition comprises three imprint cylinders which meld existing designs with completely different decors. This creates Liaisons between such materials as traditional herringbone and marble, Portuguese tiles and a wood appearance, ethno look and concrete textures. This approach produced completely new looks that generate apparently impossible combinations of elements with each other – a game of im-pressions. Innumerable opportunities for combination open up diverse perspectives for individual aspirations given that the three imprint cylinders of the “Edition Co-Equal” can be combined with virtually all decors to create new exciting patterns.

German Design Award – the royal class
The German Design Award is the international premium prize awarded by the German Design Council. Its objective is to identify, present and celebrate unique design trends. Every year, blue riband submissions from product and communication design receive prizes marking the fact that they all make a pioneering contribution in the international design landscape. This ranks the award among the most celebrated design competitions worldwide and it enjoys a high reputation far beyond specialist circles. The German Design Award is conferred by the German Design Council, the leading authority in Germany on design and brands. In 1953, the German Parliament launched the German Design Council and established it as a foundation. The council helps business and industry to generate consistent brand value through design. This makes the German Design Council one of the world’s leading com-petence centres for communication and brand leadership in the area of design. Alongside business organisations and institutions, the proprietors and brand directors of many leading companies belong to the foundation’s exclusive network of members.
